Father's Day Q&A with Al Albay: Tips and Insights for New Dads

In celebration of Father’s Day, we sat down with Al Albay, a videographer and owner of Best Cut Films, from Vancouver, Canada, to delve into his experiences as a new father while managing his real estate videography business. Discover how he balances work, family, and the role technology plays in staying connected.

So, Al, how long have you been a father for?

Our first baby was born on May 8th of this year, so I’ve been a father for 3 weeks now.

How has becoming a father changed your perspective on life and your priorities?

Becoming a father brings about a profound shift in my perspective and priorities. I find that my focus expands beyond myself, my wife, and my business, as I now have a little one who depends on me. My priorities shifted towards creating a nurturing and secure environment for my baby’s growth and well-being and realized even more the value of time and family.

The first few weeks and months are certainly some of the toughest times as a new parent. What challenges have you encountered so far in your new role as a father, and how have you been dealing with them?

The arrival of our child brought both joy and challenges. Sleep deprivation, dividing parental responsibilities, and finding quality time with my wife have been a challenge for us especially during the first couple of weeks. Running my business has also become a challenge. I decided to take on less projects so I can help my wife with household chores and looking after our baby.

How has your relationship with your partner evolved since the arrival of your child, and how do you maintain a strong partnership while juggling parental responsibilities?

We realized that maintaining a strong relationship involves active listening, empathy, and finding ways to support and appreciate each other. Scheduling dedicated couple time, seeking help when needed, and openly discussing the challenges has helped us strengthen our relationship.

In today's digital age, staying connected with loved ones can be facilitated by technology. How has technology helped you stay connected with your child?

Technology plays a significant role in supporting myself as a new father in my parenting journey. It allows me to easily and instantly communicate with my wife when I’m away working. What I love about the Nursery Pal Dual Vision is that I can access and view what my baby is doing through their Hubbleclub App when I’m not at home. With its dual vision cameras, it allows me to see not only my baby but also monitor the room he’s in through the wide-angle view. The two-way communication feature of the camera also lets me speak with my wife directly, bridging that distance and maintaining a sense of closeness. We also use the Hubbleclub app to access parenting resources, educational content, and tools that facilitate organization and time management.

What are your favorite features of the Dual Vision and how does it help you stay connected with your baby?

My favorite features of the camera, besides that it has two camera angles, normal and wide, is the pre-loaded nature sounds and lullabies that comes out of its HD speakers to help set a calming environment for our little bundle of joy. I also love the 5-inch smart HD monitor that comes with it. It displays my baby's world with exceptional clarity in single or split-screen view giving us peace of mind knowing we can keep an eye on your little one with ease.
