How to Help Baby and Kids Adjust to Daylight Savings Time

Let’s face it. Daylight saving time is HARD! Throw kids into the mix and it can send any parents into a tailspin. But don’t worry! We are here to help! Below are some of the tried and tested tips from our Hubble Connected team on how to help your kids “spring forward” or “fall back” when daylight savings kick in and help them maintain their sleep schedules.

  1. Gradually adjust sleep schedules: Start adjusting your child's sleep schedule a few days before the time change. Move their bedtime and wake-up time 15 minutes earlier each day until they are on the new schedule.

  1. Stick to a bedtime routine: Bedtime routines are important for children's sleep. Stick to the same routine every night, such as a bath, story time, and a lullaby.

  1. Create a sleep-friendly environment: Make sure your child's bedroom is cool, dark, and quiet. Use blackout curtains or shades to block out any extra light that may come in during the morning.

  1. Make sure they get enough rest: Ensure your child is getting enough rest leading up to the time change. Encourage quiet activities before bedtime, and limit exposure to screens, which can interfere with sleep.

  1. Be patient: It may take a few days for your child to adjust to the new sleep schedule, so be patient and consistent with your routine. Stick to the new schedule even on weekends to help your child maintain their sleep pattern.

  1. Consider using a sleep aid: If your child is having trouble sleeping, you may consider using a sleep aid such as white noise or a weighted blanket. The Hubble Eclipseand Eclipse+ Smart Soothers are a great option. They offer a large selection of soothing sounds and white noise to help create a comfortable sleep environment. It also has a built-in nightlight for the kids who don’t like to be in the dark. Best of all, both the sound and light color can be tailored to your preference! So let the kids help decide what kind of sound and light color they want. Remember, if a child can help make the decision, they will be more likely to follow through with it! Now that’s a win-win!

Remember, every child is different, and what works for one child may not work for another. Be patient and consistent, and you will help your child adjust to the new sleep schedule. Good luck!
