Things to Keep in Mind While Putting Your Baby Nursery Together

Welcoming a cute baby into your family is bliss. Putting your baby’s nursery together can be an activity that’s both special and important for the mom-to-be. It is the nursery where you and your baby will spend a lot of time over the next few months. And that’s why it should be comfortable, safe, fun, and of course, soothing.

Some key areas to focus on are storage, furniture, play area, and decor. With so many options available these days, it can be really tough to select the right ones. Here are a few things to keep in mind while putting your baby’s nursery together to avoid regrets later.

1 - Buy what you need and not what the store has!

Before shopping for the things you need in the nursery, make sure you don’t buy anything that will not fit in your nursery and your budget. It helps to make a list of the necessities. Also, a rough budget before you leave for your shopping trip will keep you from going overboard.

  • Crib: This is going to be the focal point of your baby’s nursery. You have the option of choosing between a crib and a bassinet. A bassinet has wheels to move the baby to your bedroom or anywhere you want. However, a bassinet can be used only for a few months. On the other hand, a crib can be used for many years. If you are going for long-term investment and budget is a concern, it is better to buy a crib. The crib should be comfortable and safe for your baby. Get an organic mattress that is hypoallergenic.
  • Dresser cum changing table: Use the bottom of the changing table to store your baby’s clothes. This will save space in the nursery. If the nursery is small, you can get a crib-top changing table that will rest on the crib. When not in use, you can just push it under the crib. You can also get a changing pad that is cheaper and can be used anywhere.
  • Diaper pail:  A diaper pail is used to store used diapers. However, some moms feel it is unnecessary because when you open the pail, the entire nursery smells of used diapers.

2 - Set up a nursing station

Nursing your baby should be an enjoyable experience, not stressful. A nursing station with a comfortable chair, pillow, and all the things you need within reach will be useful. A nursing chair will keep you comfortable, help you maintain the right posture, and avoid back pain. A nursing pillow will keep the head of your baby popped up and avoid indigestion and colic issues.

3 - Stick to minimalism

Cluttering is a strict no to avoid the risk of tripping over and falling when you rush to calm your baby in the middle of the night. Never leave things scattered on the floor. Make enough storage space and keep things inside.

4 - Lighting

Avoid very bright lights in the nursery. It can make the baby uncomfortable. Light fixtures that offer shaded light should be fitted. Go for wall-fitted lamps instead of floor lamps. Dimmer lights are a better choice, as you can increase or decrease the brightness to suit your baby’s mood.

Now that you have an idea about the essentials of a nursery, it’s time you start putting one together. Don’t wait until the last minute. It can be really enjoyable and exciting if you start early. So go ahead and get ready for this exciting phase of nesting!
